Kayaking Silver Springs - See the monkeys

| Public details: Let's paddle Silver Springs, followed by a picnic lunch at Ray's Wayside Park. We'll have two groups.
Group 1: You have your own kayak. Meet at 9AM at Ray's Wayside Park. Picnic material will be stored in these vehicles. We'll reverse shuttle up to the main park to meet with
Group 2: You need to rent a kayak. Be at the address pinned below by 9:15. Feel free to launch before Group 1 arrives, but please hang out in the main area.
The paddling is all downstream, and the flow is currently strong. It took me less than 3 hours on 3/21/25, and I mostly paddled to keep the kayak pointed forward. In other words, it's an EASY run. You may see (and I saw all of these on 3/21):
A Manatee!
Fish: bowfin, bass, tilapia, alligator gar, various others
Reptiles: snakes, turtles, and check out this gator video, which is the best experience I've ever had being quite near a big gator (https://youtube.com/shorts/cQuYRrjPins?feature=share).
Birds: kingfisher, a large flock of ibis, and various other herons. |
