| Public details: No, sorry, Rick and I will NOT be wearing bathrobe tie thongs and wrestling each other in driveway.
BUT we are willing to host a sumo watching night.
The former emperor of Japan stepped down at the end of April. May 1 began a new era called Reiwa "beautiful harmony" in Japan.
This is the LAST day of the 15 day new Reiwa era tournament and Donald Trump is scheduled to show up for the last couple of matches AND give out a new prize, from him, supposedly for the new era.
Thought we'd offer up an evening of sumo education -- a little background and back story (there is intrigue and scandal!!) then we can watch the last night.
Next to professional bull riding, this is my favorite sport (with tractor pulls coming in third).
Why? What could these 3 sports have in common? 1) I'm fascinated by mass in motion 2) it requires a short attention span-- much action in a short moment 3) much excitement -- referee/announcer yelling.
What else? Well, two guys of equal size, well, the match could go either way. Two guys of wildly different size? Well, the match could still go either way. Little guy can move faster and wear out the big guy, but the big guy can pick him up and push him out IF he grabs him the right way at the right time...
There are 82 approved moves: push out, smack down, belt grab, etc...but most sumo wrestlers perfect only a couple moves... which one will work best??
